Join AVDA and Verizon Wireless as we kickoff Purple Light Nights in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. See City Hall glow with a purple hue as Mayor Pro-Tem Ed Gonzalez presents AVDA with a proclamation of evenings in October being "Purple Light Nights" in Houston. Verizon Wireless will also be on hand to encourage the public to support HopeLine, Verizon's program that collects no-longer used phones and accessories (from any carrier) in more than 2,200 Verizon Wireless stores across the country, including 47 in the greater Houston area. Collected phones are refurbished or recycled, benefiting local domestic violence shelters in the form of grants, or donated phones that help their clients rebuild their lives.
