Event Details

Over the last 13 years, the domestic violence advocacy field has incorporated a trauma-informed approach to its work with survivors. In this presentation, Olga Trujillo, a survivor of domestic violence and child abuse, will deconstruct her experience of violence and healing and pose a more holistic approach to services. Olga is an attorney, trainer, internationally renowned speaker and author who has devoted her career to helping advocates, first responders and others in the field better understand the impact of trauma on survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse and human trafficking.

A healing-centered approach incorporates a trauma-informed lens while also centering the survivor’s cultural identity and strengths. We’ll examine why cultural identity is so important and explore strategies that sustain connection and center cultural identity and individual strengths at its foundation. A panel discussion with AVDA CEO Maisha Colter, Daya Executive Director Rachna Kare, and The Women’s Home’s Chief Program Officer Staci Sewell Young will follow.

This seminar is presented by AVDA, Daya, Harris County Domestic Relations Office, and The Women’s Home.
